Overview

Successful candidate will work on a wide variety of building types located throughout the United States and will take an active role in coordinating with local staff of mechanical, electrical, structural, civil engineers, technicians and plumbing designers in an interdisciplinary Team setting with architects, interior designers and planners.  Additional responsibilities include: active participation at design review meetings, equipment and system selection, performing computer analysis of alternate HVAC systems for buildings including life cycle cost analysis, coordination with governing agencies, quality control reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, and resource management. Work product to consist of Concept Designs thru Contract Documents including drawings and specifications for building mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection). Senior duties include conducting QA/QC on the work of other mechanical engineers and technicians, reviewing mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.  Also, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will assist with Marketing/Business Development activities, including but not limited to proposal writing, client interviews, and other duties as assigned.  Professional sealing of production efforts will be required. Travel for Marketing/Business Development and project-related activities will be required.

Responsibilities

• Discuss objectives, requirements, and budgets of project with Project Managers, vendors, Clients and Contractors;
• Review and comply with local, state, and federal codes pertaining to Life Safety, Building, and Mechanical regulations and ordinances; convey applicable changes of local, state, and federal regulations and ordinances to Teammates;
• Lead the Mechanical design and planning of projects, oversee production of contract documents, review submittals, and solve field coordination issues;
• Write and edit Mechanical specifications and equipment selection for Mechanical systems and devices;
• Participate in Construction Administration by processing shop drawings, responding to RFI's, and performing site visits during the construction phase to ensure projects are adhering to specifications and design layout;
• Act a mentor for Team personnel by providing continuous assistance and support through professional training and career development;
• Supervise the work of engineers, designers and technicians assigned to applicable projects to ensure quality assurance, discipline scheduling and budgeting;
• Report status of design process and cost analysis to appropriate Project Manager; be accountable for Mechanical project budgets;
• Perform research to stay abreast of developments within the field of Mechanical Engineering; attend local, state, and national seminars, conventions and summits; collaborate with Team Operations Leaders, Project Managers and Market Sector Leaders to improve or develop new engineering methods to improve efficiency, technique, quality and dependability; and
• Performs other duties as assigned or instructed.

Qualifications

• Ability to persuasively and visually communicate ideas
• Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with project personnel
• Ability to work independently and as part of a Team
• Knowledge and proficiency of Auto CAD/REVIT
• Strong computer skills with use of Microsoft Office applications
• Experience with engineering analysis, energy/load simulation software and reporting
• In depth knowledge of the Mechanical sections of Life Safety Codes, the IBC Code and Building Codes on the Local, State and Federal level
• Proficiency in engineering analysis and calculations: HVAC, plumbing and fire protection
• Excellent time management and organization skills
Education and Licensing:
• BSME degree from accredited college/university
• 15 years of progressive experience in the Mechanical design field with focus on buildings
• Professional registration as Mechanical engineer required
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in Georgia preferred
