  • Overview

    LEO A DALY’s Washington, DC office is seeking an experienced Education Sector design professional to lead and grow its Higher Education practice. The person in this position is responsible to provide vision, strategic direction, promote the growth of the practice and provide thought leadership for the office’s Education Program. They are also responsible to assist in the delivery of projects. The emphasis will be on higher education institutions, but can include the K-12 education sector as well. LEO A DALY’s education program is an emerging practice with respected areas of success within core competencies looking to grow into one of the largest practices within the firm with an emphasis on Life Science and Student Life.

    Candidate must demonstrate significant recent engagement with multiple Colleges and Universities, preferably in the DC, Virginia and/or Maryland area. Specialized experience with one or more campus building types is a plus. Candidates must demonstrate their experience in developing new business (either individually or as a part of teams) for their firms. Additional consideration will be given to those candidates with a history of writing articles for educational journals and of delivering presentations at educational conferences.  

    The selected candidate will with work with the Company’s Corporate Education Practice Leader and the leadership of the office to further build and strengthen DC’s Education Center of Excellence.


    • Provide vision, strategic direction and thought leadership to advance the office’s education program, with an emphasis on Higher Education, at the regional level. Provide understanding of regional, national and global trends.
    • Contribute to the development of the annual strategic plan for the Company’s and Office’s Education Market Sector.
    • Lead and guide the development of winning pursuit strategies, targeted client capture plans and the production of winning RFQ’s and RFP’s responses, including strategic Teaming.
    • Inspire and lead the achievement of the office’s market sector strategic goals, targeted pursuit win rate and budgeted New Business Contracted and Net Fees Earned.
    • Review and assist in the update of Education program marketing materials, branding and positioning strategy.
    • Assess education resources, expertise and experience and recommend key hires to build a “best of class” team.



    • Registered Architect.
    • 15+ years of relevant professional Higher Education project experience.
    • Demonstrated success in performing in a leadership role within an educational design practice.
    • Proven business development skills to identify opportunities, develop client relationships, understand client needs, and develop customized innovative approaches to meet client needs, develop winning pursuit strategies and lead the pursuit process from pre-sale to close.
    • Strong current contacts/network in the educational industry and in the region.
    • Proven leadership skills to lead teams to develop a vision, direction and strategy, and motivate and coach team members to achieve their optimal potential.
    • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate and present to multiple levels of industry audiences, clients and internal staff and leadership.
    • Education facility planning expertise required.
    • Software skills including InDesign, MS Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Revit and Sketch-Up a plus
    • Must be a self-starter, requiring minimal direction, who can multi-task and effectively prioritize tasks.
    • Team-oriented, with the ability to support, facilitate, lead and motivate others through influence and respect.
    • High–performer with low ego and needs. Energetic, enthusiastic, committed and entrepreneurial.
    • Must be able to generate enthusiasm for best-in-class performance through the clear personal passion to be the best in education design.
