  • Overview

     

    Responsibilities

    With preliminary direction from a licensed architect, meet with client representatives for presentations and workshops, analysis of goals and needs, develop programmed space spreadsheets, narrative summaries, room data sheets, adjacency diagrams, graphic content, and prepare final Project Program document; assist in predesign/planning and all phases of international and domestic large scale healthcare projects, including new construction, renovations, and site planning; develop site analysis studies requiring site photography, code research, base drawings, and diagrams; develop concept alternatives, studies and development for buildings and sites utilizing 3D digital massing, physical site modeling, floor plans, space plans, building elevations, sections and perspectives; develop design and concept for healthcare design competitions requiring expedited concept development and document production; analyze sketches, photographs, notes, and other input material to determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve technical issues of design in relation to sites, buildings and client needs; develop exterior envelope design requiring enlarged plans, elevations, sections, details and axonometric drawings; build physical models using digital fabrication software and laser cutter for design development and presentations; site survey of existing conditions and take as-built measurements; develop documents for all design phases, schematic design through construction documents including documenting architectural plans, elevations, and details in imperial or metric standards for jurisdictional agency review using 2D/3D modeling using Autodesk AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, Autodesk Revit and related BIM, 2D and 3D Modeling software; produce design documentation and presentations with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint, and free-hand sketching; coordinate conceptual design drawings with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), civil, structural, lighting, A/V, telecom, graphics, interiors and landscape consultants to incorporate building systems into architectural designs to produce construction documentation and secure client and regulatory approval; assist in the implementation of firm-wide strategies and collaborate with design teams to ensure sustainable design success, provide support and guidance firm-wide, and focus on the seamless rollout of sustainable design implementation in healthcare design projects; prepare and incorporate weather data analysis to identify passive design potential based on the local climate and building use to minimize building energy needs and maximize the energy savings; set-up parametric optimization workflows using available and custom developed scripts to connect 3D modeling tools, building environmental analysis tools to optimize the building shape and/or building envelope and provide quick feedback on the performance to rest of the design team; work in conjunction with sustainable design leadership in the continued improvement and development of high performance design to maintain and improve the quality and consistency of design environment and deliverables; make corrections as indicated by the Project Architect and Design Director to in-progress sets of design development and construction documents; perform Post Occupancy Evaluations, conduct user surveys, analyze information, and prepare written reports with results and recommendations; perform necessary modifications of drawings and specifications as construction projects progress and changes in dimensions, materials, and other aspects of design arise from client, agency or public input; process general contractor’s requests for information (RFI’s), submittals, and change order requests; respond to Requests for Qualifications (RFQ’s), Requests for Proposals (RFP’s) and design competitions; assist in establishing task schedule and manpower requirements consistent with the project agreement; assist in identifying weekly project requirements and projecting long term needs; assist with project consultant agreements and project budgets; assist in identifying and quantifying tasks outside the scope of the Owner-Architect agreement for negotiation of additional services; conduct site visits, final inspections and prepare punch lists and record drawings; review and prepare certificates of substantial completion, occupancy, and final completion.

    Qualifications
