  • Overview

    LEO A DALY, a full-service AE firm located in Midtown Atlanta, has an open position available for a Mechanical Engineer in our Mechanical Engineering group.  The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of building types associated within the markets of Federal, Healthcare, and Aviation located throughout the United States.  This position will take an active role on an interdisciplinary team of engineers, designers, technicians and architects and participate in design review meetings, equipment and system selection, coordination with governing agencies, quality control reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, and resource management.  Work product to consist of Contract Documents including drawings and specifications for building mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection).

    Responsibilities

    • Design analyses including calculations such as software-based energy consumption and heating/cooling load models, comparative system life-cycle cost models, ventilation system ductwork and hydronic piping system pressure loss calculations.
    • Assist with drawing layout and sizing of ductwork and piping systems (hydronic/steam/refrigerant/gas).
    • Selection of various mechanical systems equipment (potentially including air-handling units (AHUs), air-terminal units (ATUs), diffusers/registers/grilles, fans, pumps, boilers, and chillers, among others).
    • Produce a work product consisting of Concept Design thru Contract Document packages which include drawings and specifications for building systems (HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection).
    • Conduct QA/QC reviews of other mechanical engineers, engineers-in-training and technicians, including interdisciplinary review of documents for areas of conflict with all building disciplines.
    • Complete work assignments with a high degree of quality with regard to time and budget constraints.
    • Discuss objectives, requirements, and budgets of project with Project Managers, vendors, Clients and Contractors and Senior Mechanical Engineers;
    • Review and insure compliance with local, state, and federal codes pertaining to Life Safety, Building, and Mechanical regulations and ordinances; convey applicable changes of local, state, and federal regulations and ordinances to Senior Mechanical Engineers and Teammates.
    • Participate in on-site assessments of existing facilities and in the preparation of mechanical/plumbing engineering systems condition assessment reports.
    • Develop mechanical engineering systems design-basis narratives, technical studies & reports.
    • Participate in Construction Administration by processing shop drawings, responding to RFI's, and as requested performing site visits during the construction phase to ensure projects are adhering to specifications and design layout.
    • Report status of work product to appropriate Senior Mechanical Engineers and Project Managers.
    • Seek continuing education/experience to stay abreast of developments within the field of Mechanical Engineering.

    Qualifications

     

     

     

    • Proficiency in engineering analysis and calculations (HVAC, plumbing and fire protection).
    • Proven competency with various engineering design and production software tools such as AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, Outlook, PowerPoint.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with project personnel and clients both verbally and in writing.
    •  Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively with other individuals, exhibiting a strong team-oriented approach, as well as excellent organization and time management skills.
    • In depth knowledge of the Mechanical sections of Life Safety Codes, the IBC Code and Building Codes on the Local, State and Federal level. Experience designing within the markets of Federal, Healthcare or Aviation a plus.
    • Experience designing within the markets of Federal, Healthcare, or Aviation a plus.
    • BSME degree from an accreditred college
    • Liscensed Profession Mechanical Engineer (PE) with minium of 5 years' experience in the A/E in the Mechanical design field with focus on buildings
    • LEED accreditatin is a plus.
