Responsibilities

  • Researches and identifies project-appropriate architectural requirements
  • Performs BIM modeling and detailing
  • Participates in cross-discipline discussions and coordination with multidisciplinary teammates
  • Assists to conduct site investigations and observations
  • Assists to prepare narratives, architectural graphics, design presentations, drawing and specification documents in accordance with a high degree of quality, yet with regard to project schedule and budget constraints
  • Travel for project related activities relative to existing building assessments/investigations, client meetings, or construction jobsite observations may be required
  • Attends client meetings and communicates with clients, consultants, contractors, and others during various states of project development
  • Participate in the design, selection, coordination and detailing of architectural solutions
  • Translate conceptual ideas into architectural graphics and prepare design presentations to communicate ideas to clients
  • Analyze design concept of buildings and space in 2D/3D and create design presentations using freehand sketches, 2D/3D modeling and rendering software
  • Assist in preparation of proposals, reports and findings
  • Assist in the production of technical drawings
  • Assist in the design development, modification and/or review of laboratory planning concepts and solutions.
  • Assist in developing project scope, plan, and services and during the contract process. Translate planning concepts into comprehensible terms for clients, designers, and project team members.
  • Assist in establishing overall project budgets and milestone schedules in coordination with project managers, architects, and project engineers.
  • Communicate planning concepts to project teams, both verbally and through graphic and written reports.
  • Develop planning concepts for project documentation and construction.
  • Anticipate and develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with existing and potential clients.
  • Speak or participate in professional conferences or other events related to area of laboratory programming, planning and design.

 

Leadership and Management 

  • Provide technical planning expertise and leadership for laboratory facilities in the areas of programming, design, fit-out planning, equipment planning, MEP systems integration planning casework specification and construction administration
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients. Participate in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Actively seek new knowledge in the design and planning of scientific spaces for research and laboratories within technical facilities.
  • Actively participate in industry associations.
  • Take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • Foster a culture of external and internal client service.

 

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Assist with proposal development and RFP responses in pursuit of new business.
  • Establish project scope with the client, attend client meetings and communicate with clients, consultants, contractors, and others during various stages of project development
  • Foster long-standing and mutual relationships with clients in pursuit of Trusted Advisor status and opportunities for repeat work.
  • Participate in project interviews when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university
  • Graduate of a 4-year accredited architecture or engineering program
  • 8-10 years of experience within AEC industry
  • Knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for laboratory design.
  • Knowledge of laboratory programming delivery and how design impacts those systems –including space, operational, and equipment programming, as well as MEP systems and casework.
  • Knowledge of laboratory planning, design, construction documents, construction administration and project construction cost control for lab facilities.
  • Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Possess strong hand and electronic drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to convey laboratory planning needs to designers and other team members.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of Lab Planning experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Proficiency in Newforma preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit or another BIM platform preferred.

 

General Characteristics

  • Maintains knowledge of current industry trends on space, function, materials, etc.
  • Proficiency with computer software including Revit Architecture required
  • Working knowledge of Sketch-Up and Adobe Creative Suite/ Bluebeam preferred
  • Time management and organization skills with the ability to become involved in and remain current on issues relating to a number of one-two projects in various stages
  • Demonstrated ability to develop awareness and begin to lead team coordination of contract documents
  • Strong graphic, verbal, and written communication skills required
  • Positive attitude and commitment to being an active participant working as part of a multi-discipline team
