Responsibilities

The Managing Principal’s strategic contribution is through the ability to deliver on the aspirations of the annual business plan and the inspiration of sector leaders to creatively formulate the vision for their respective sectors. The tactical responsibilities of the Managing Principal revolve around plan implementation and the overall performance of the Dallas Studio. 

 

Overall Firm Leadership

  • Participate in firmwide initiatives, especially as part of the team of Managing Principals.
  • Uphold, promote and further the achievement of firmwide goals.
  • Help build an exceptional group of professionals through creating an exemplary practice and using it to attract superior talent.

 

Studio Specific Responsibilities

Business Development

  • The Managing Principal is ultimately responsible for maintaining existing and developing new business for the studio and LEO A DALY by leveraging their industry contacts, participating in strategic client and industry events, and promoting LEO A DALY and the studio throughout the community. In addition, the Managing Principal will be expected to:
    • Regularly represent the studio to clients and others in all external activities.
    • Promote the LEO A DALY name in the community by sponsoring events, winning awards, and other.
    • Ultimately responsible for meeting new business goals established by the LEO A DALY President
  • Instill a positive and constructive culture of teamwork and collaboration. Develop staff by encouraging and managing their continual and unique career development.
  • Identify and address the needs of the studio by recruiting talent through personal connections and in collaboration with the LEO A DALY’s People Operations
  • Guide and direct the senior leaders of the studio in the management, development, promotion, and marketing of the studio's services.
  • In coordination with the LEO A DALY President establish and meet growth objectives for the studio and consistent with LEO A DALY’s strategic plan.
  • In coordination with LEO A DALY’s Chief Operations Officer (COO), manage the studio’s Director of Operations (DOO) to optimize the studio’s overall performance and profitability.
  • Oversee proposals and pursuit strategy and quality of submissions.

 

Goal Setting

  • Establish short and long-term studio goals and objectives consistent with the overall goals of Leo A Daly.
  • Work with studio leaders to inspire the Dallas team to achieve designated goals and profitability targets.

 

Project Execution

  • With the assistance of the COO and DOO, oversee the revisions to processes to enhance project performance in terms of schedule, cost, profitability, design quality, regulatory and legal compliance, contract scope, risk management, and technical excellence.
  • Foster a collaborative culture that allows the studio’s team of professionals to assume accountability and responsibility for the successful completion of every project, effective business development and client management.

 

Management

  • Effectively delegate responsibilities to subordinates to ensure priorities and goals of the studio are adequately addressed and met.  
  • Manage and develop studio staff in the management, development, promotion, and marketing of the studio's services to existing and potential clients.
  • Ensure that business practices are thorough, inclusive, fair, and future-oriented.
  • Regularly review performance of the studio with senior leaders in achieving business goals and the health of the culture of the Studio.

Qualifications

  • Registered Architect
  • BArch or MArch degree
  • 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Evidence of success in business development.
  • Effective leadership of diverse groups of employees in a large, multi-office firm environment.
  • Previous P/L experience within an AE firm with a track record of consistent profitability.
  • Leadership presence and communication skills that inspire and quickly build trust within the office and firm, and externally with the community and profession.
  • Significant experience in at least one of the following market sectors: Higher Education, Hospitality, Corporate, Commercial, Aviation, Healthcare.
  • Experience in the Dallas or surrounding regions resulting in strong business relationships.
  • Acknowledgement of the necessity to lead by example while effectively managing the office staff in their respective roles.
  • Proven ability to inspire teams within a larger corporate culture and an interest in leveraging the resources of the entire firm.
  • Ability to interact successfully with clients and staff at all levels.
  • Established client network within the respective region, along with a preference of having a strong national client network.
